A new design : Show-me-the-way cowl

Do you like cowls ? I do, without any doubt. Even more, I am a huge fan of cowls : I wear them all the time when I am outside : riding on my bike, taking a walk, … They are snuggly and warm, and really comfortable.

And because I like vivid colours and a few catchy accents too, I decided to make this ‘Show-me-the-way’ cowl design.

A cowl with a message 🙂

Autumn is a special time for a lot of people : it is a time filled with introspection, looking and searching, listening to what you heart tells you. Who are you ? What do you like ? What needs to be changed to improve the quality of your life ? Is the path you are following still the right one ? What choices do you need to make ?

And very often, if you can find the courage to listen very carefully, or to look around you with an openminded ‘look’, you can SEE which way you need to go. Your path will be visible.

Actually, this cowl design, is about finding your direction, or maybe you just have to refind it (because it is very obvious, but you just need a bit of a little reminder 🙂 ) , and some of you will just follow the path they are already going.

I added some crocheted cords at both sides and in the center part of the cowl, these cords ‘show you the way’. (they are optional, so you can also make the cowl without them).

I used a supersoft merino yarn : Scheepjes MerinoSoft. I like the softness and the luxurious feeling of merino wool a lot !

6 balls of the main colour, and 3 balls of the second shade. I choose light grey (Michelangelo-grey) and magenta (Carney).

I worked with 2 strands together and hook size 8mm, so extra warmth and a fast satisfying project guaranteed…

And like for all my crochet patterns : the pattern comes fully written, with a chart added as well. My testing panel has done a great job as well, by testing the instructions before publication.

Pattern : show-me-the-way cowl : Ravelry and webshop

Yarn : Scheepjes MerinoSoft  (50 % merinowol, 25 % acryl en 25 % micro)

Crochet hook : 8 mm

New crochet pattern : mesh cardigan for ladies

I have a new crochet pattern ready and I am releasing it today : a ladies mesh cardigan!

A super-trendy design, with nice openworked stitch pattern, and a comfortable fit ! This cardi is also featherlight, because thanks to the nice lacy stitchwork, it does not require high amounts of yarn.

The design is topdown, meaning : you start at the neckline, and work your way down, all seamlessly and in 1 piece. So a zero-frustration project, because there is no seaming at the end. And the good thing is, while crocheting this trendy piece, you can try it on whenever you want to, to see if you are happy with it as it is, and if necessary, you can make small adjustments, like making it longer or shorter, or …..

The pattern is fully written, in 3 sizes : S-M, M-L and L-XL. Available in English (US terms) and in Dutch. It also has a nice chart, and even a sketch with all the measurements.

And as always, the pattern is tested by my testing panel, which assures a high quality product.

Summer Mesh Cardigan Annelies Baes Vicarno

Let’s take about the yarn I used : the super-de-luxe Scheepjes Linen Soft Yarn (needless to say I am a big fan of this natural yarn, with its beautiful colours and wonderfull structure). Both my cardigans are made with the linen yarn. But… if you prefer a fluffy supersoft cardigan, I suggest you make it in Scheepjes Softfun. And I you are in the mood for a warmer and more winter version, I advise you to choose the new Scheepjes Merino Soft yarn. (by the way : if any of you can offer me ‘a box of extra time’, I want to make myself a merino version as well).

The grey cardigan is modeled by Atty, from Atty’s. I was thrilled and very happy when she wanted to be a model during the photoshoot. She looks amazing, don’t you agree ?

I am wearing the blue cardi myself, the picture is taken on a summer day, very quickly, in the garden 🙂

I wish you all a happy weekend!

Knight doll design published in Inside Crochet

I designed a knight doll, fully equiped 🙂  : with a helmet, a ring mail, boots, a sword and a shield.

A little hero-doll. Because children just love heroes, to play with, to comfort them, to cuddle with.

The interesting part about this doll design is I managed to make the doll itself seamless, so it is worked in 1 piece. So no frustration at the end, because there are no arms or legs or other parts that need to be sewn.

I also tried to design nice comfortable clothes and accessories, that are easy to put on and off, and look great.

The hair, that was another story… I did not have any experience in making hair for dolls. So after a few attempts, I decided to ask Nancy from ‘t Knuffelpopje for help. She is a fantastic doll maker, and she wanted to help me out. So I am very grateful she gave my doll this gorgeous hair. ze gemaakt heeft voor me.

The doll itself and all the accessories are made with  Scheepjes Softfun and Softfun denim, supersoft yarn, that is strong as well, and is very easy in maintenance, you can wash it in the washing machine without stress. So the ideal yarn for toys and children clothing.

I think this knight will soon have a little princess-friend 🙂

I wish you all a wonderfull day.

Bracelets : free crochet pattern at the end of the Scheepjes CAL 2015 Flight of Fancy

Yesterday we released the last part of the   Scheepjes CAL 2015 Flight of Fancy shawl.

A wonderfull crochet adventure, that lasted for 11 weeks, and I am sure it will be continued for a lot of people, including myself. All patterns will remain available online for free.

We have been making our CAL shawls with Scheepjes Linen Soft, a wonderfull natural yarn, made of linen, cotton and acrylic.

To use up some of the leftovers, I designed a bracelet pattern.

I am happy to share the free pattern with you.

These bracelets are very trendy, so choose your own preferred style : make them in neutral shades like beige, grey or white, or maybe you prefer the more colourfull ones in lilac, purple, teal or green ?

Esther Dijkstra from ‘It’s all in a Nutshell’ made a wonderfull video on how to crochet these bracelets. Watch the video after reading the pattern, because it explains really well how to crochet the tube. (you can find the link below, in the pattern)

Scheepjes Flight of Fancy free crochet pattern bracelets armbanden Linen Soft Annelies Baes design free crochet pattern

– Yarn : Scheepjes Linen Soft, some leftovers, in shades you like.
– Crochet hook : 2,5 mm or 3 mm. A small hook is used !
– Used stitches : chain (ch), slipstitch in BACK LOOPS (slst). US and UK crochet terms.
– You also need : scissors, tapestry needle to weave in ends, superglue, and bracelets closures (from Gütermann).

– Crochet tightly !
– Chain 5, make a round and close round with 1slst in first ch.
– Next continue working in rounds, without closing or turning : work 1slst in next 4ch : 5slst (count the first slst to close the circle as well).
– From now on work slst in the back loops of the previous slst : always work in continuous rounds. You will notice a little dense tube is formed.
– Continue until your tube is about 16-17 cm (6,5 in). This is of course an average size. If necessary, make your tube shorter or longer, to achieve your preferred size.
– Cut yarn and cast off.
– Now glue each end of the bracelet into the closure/clasp.
– Allow to dry. Ready !

Bloom fruit basket – design : fully enjoying the summer !

Enjoying summer = enjoying cherries. Absolutely, no summer without cherries for me.

Deep red, tasty, delicious, fresh cherries, we all love them here. We pick them ourselves, straight from the trees,  in Limburg, where my parents-in-law live a happy life with their garden full of nature’s best treats in every season.

So I decided to embellish a fruit basket, to celebrate summer ! I wanted lots of colours, and the Scheepjes Bloom cotton yarn is a wonderfull option for this design : a wonderfull colour selection to choose from, the most happy colours, the yarn has great natural stretch in it (so it provides a wonderfull fit for the basket cover), it is strong, and very easy to work with.

I am writing down the pattern right now, and I will have it ready by next week, I hope. It will be released as a FREE crochet pattern, and the great part : the pattern is very easy to adjust to all kinds of basket sizes. So stay tuned and make sure to check the blog next week !

Adventure vest in Inside Crochet

Children love to play, and the like being adventurous.

Giddy-up horse ! Running around, having so much fun, outside !

And of course they prefer to do it in style, with a nice adventure vest, that is made in beautiful colours. Because my experience is, children need a lot of colours, it makes  them happy and they all look fabulous with some coloured accents.

So I decided to make this vest in Scheepjes Softfun, it is available in lots of colours. And it is sooooo soft, it feels ‘like litle soft cushions’. And being a mother myself, I think it is important to choose yarns that are very easy to wash too 🙂

The pattern comes in 3 sizes, and is published in Inside Crochet, Issue 68.

Inside Crochet is a wonderfull high quality crochet magazine, full of inspiration and filled with lots of great crochet patterns, suitable for all levels ! You can buy it in a lot of stores, and also online. (I have a subscription for several years now, and I enjoy reading it every month).

New : shawl pattern : Birds in the Sky Shawl

Summer : a blue sky in all different shades of the most beautiful blue, with flying birds everywhere. Holiday, happiness and joy.

I wanted to combine all this summer feelings in 1 shawl, and as usual, the yarn is one of the most important matters, when creating a design. I knew very well what I wanted : yarn that resembled a TRUE sky, because I like the beauty of nature. Looking at the sky is one of the most wonderfull experiences, so I just wanted to create that same sensational feeling.

I looked, and searched. And did not find what I was looking for. So I decided to make my own yarn. Because I really liked the Scheepjes Maxi yarn, they had exactly the right shades of blue I was looking for. The yarn is strong, thin, and very lightweight. I loved it. I decided to take different strands together, to create my desired different shades of blue. 2 strands together, 2 different colours each time. It worked, I was so happy!

I combined half a ball of white with half a ball of light blue, followed by half a ball of light blue with bright blue, and next bright blue with darker blue, and decided to end with the darker blue and the navy blue.

I was totally happy, and felt in harmony, looking at my ‘blue-sky-yarn’.

The shawl itself is a quick and relaxing project, thanks to the easy-to-remember stitch pattern. The pattern is fully written (in English US terms and in Dutch), and 2 large charts are added too.

It is a perfect summer project !

The pattern can be found in my pattern shop and on Ravelry.

So, I am going out right now, for a lovely summernight walk, wearing my Birds in the Sky Shawl and I wish you all a lovely evening 🙂

Free crochet pattern : It’s a Sunny Day Shawl

I am very happy to share the free crochet pattern of my new shawl design : It’s a Sunny Day Shawl. I used Scheepjes Softfun and Softfun Denim for this design: the yarn is very fluffy, refreshing cold in the summer, and warm and cuddly on colder days or evenings. It is available in lots of wonderfull colours, so it was hard to choose 🙂  It is a perfect cotton-acrylic blend, soft, and with some natural stretch in it, and it is very easy washable in the washing machine. I loved worked with this yarn.

You can purchase the yarn for this shawl at the international retailers :

Deramores : Scheepjes Softfun    and  Scheepjes Softfun Denim

Woolwarehouse : Scheepjes Softfun and Scheepjes Softfun Denim ,

Paradisefibers

For The Netherlands and Belgium, you can find an overview of all the shops here : shops

it's a sunny day shawl

Info

– Crochet pattern for a large triangular shawl. The entire shawl is worked topdown, this means you start at the center, and your shawl gets wider and wider, by making increases at the sides and in the center.
The size is very easily adjustable.
The body of the shawl is worked with crème, and the stitch pattern is easy to memorise.
The large edging is divided in 2 parts (sizes are also easy adjustable) : the first part has large repetitive shells and the second part lots of small ch-spaces.
By using several different colours the result will be wonderfull.

– Yarn : Scheepjeswol Softfun and Softfun denim / 60% cotton, 40% acrylic, 1 skein = 50gr = 140m / dk weight yarn.
Body of the shawl : Sortfun shade 2426 (crème) : 3 skeins
Edging of the shawl : Sortfun denim : 1 skein shade 503 (fuchsia), 1 skein shade 500 (turquoise), 1 skein shade 504 (rose) and 0,5 skein shade 501 (dark jeans blue).
You need 900 m of yarn for the entire shawl.

– Crochet hook : 4 mm

– Used stitches : magic ring, chain (ch), slipstitch (slst), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), work 2 double crochet together (2dctog), cluster (CL), picot (p), stitch marker (M). I use US crochet terms.
– Cluster : 2dctog + 1ch + 2dctog + 1ch + 2dctog
– picot : work 3ch, followed by 1sc in first out of 3ch.

– Gauge : not crucial.

– You also need : scissors, tapestry needle to weave in ends, ruler, mat and pins for blocking, stitch marker

– Crochet charts : 2 charts are added at the end of the pattern : 1 for the body of the shawl and 1 for the edging. (printing -tip for the charts : change you printer settings to landscape, before printing the charts, your charts will be bigger and clearer).
